Merlin Trials are a type of Collections in Hogwarts Legacy. Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trials are short, time-based puzzle levels that offer players a unique and challenging experience as they progress through the game. The puzzles involve a mix of magical spells, enchanted objects, and problem-solving skills. One of the most interesting aspects of Merlin Trials is the variety of magical objects and spells that can be used to solve puzzles. Players can use a variety of different spells to manipulate magical objects, discover hidden symbols, and unlock secret chambers.

Increasing Inventory Slots in Howgarts Legacy

Gear Slots are preciously few in Hogwarts Legacy. Completing Merlin Trial Challenges is the only way to increase your Gear Slots. There are several challenges that increase your inventory size so you can have more.

Challenges for Merlin Trials are found under "Exploration Challenges" in the menu. The completion requirement isn't cumulative, meaning that if you complete one challenge by finishing two trials, the next challenge will start at count 0 of X:

  • Solve 2 Merlin Trials = additional 4 slots (from default 20 to 24 slots)
  • Solve 6 Merlin Trials = additional 4 slots (24 slots to 28 slots)
  • Solve 10 Merlin Trials = additional 4 slots (from default 28 to 32 slots)
  • Solve 14 Merlin Trials = additional 4 slots (from default 32 to 36 slots)
  • Solve 20 Merlin Trials = additional 4 slots (from default 35 to 40 slots)

North Ford Bog Merlin Trials Guide

Merlin Trial#1 - North Ford Bog

Merlin Trial found in a small pond next to a Small Bandit Camp in northern North Ford Bog region.
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft
* Five pillars nearby must be destroyed with CONFRIGO. Some of them are hidden behind vines alongside the cliff surrounding the pond. Two pillars are on the higher ground above the pond. Simply use CONFRIGO to destroy vines and pillars and complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#2 - North Ford Bog - Graveyard

Merlin Trial found within a graveyard in the North Ford Bog. The area is infested with Inferi so dispatch them before proceeding.
* Requires: Flipendo, obtained by completing Professor Garlick's Assignment 2.
* There are three pillars nearby. Target the top block of each pillar to flip it. The flip will happen depending on which facet of the cube you hit.
* Use FLIPENDO on each pillar to match the bottom portion.

Merlin Trial#3 - North Ford Fog - Pitt-Upon-Ford

Merlin Trial found just outside Pitt-Upon-Ford in Western North Ford Fog.
* This is a simple trial all you have to do is go up the nearby pillars without touching the ground in between jumps.

Merlin Trial#4 - East North Ford Bog

Merlin Trial found by the East North Ford Bog Floo Flame. The area is surrounded by Mongrel enemies.
* Requires: Incendio and Wingdarium Leviosa, which is acquired from completing subquest Professor Garlick's Assignment 1
* Look WEST and slightly south from the trial, you will see a Giant Ball in the distance as well as 3 pillars.
* Approach the pillars and use Incendio or any fire spell to remove the vines covering the indenture. Then use WINGDARIUM LEVIOSA to move the Giant Ball into place to complete the trial.

 

Forbidden Forest Merlin Trials Guide

Merlin Trial#5 - Forbidden Forest - Jackdaw's Tomb

Merlin Trial found East from Jackdaw's Tomb Floo Flame in the Forbidden Forest. There is a Mongrel in the area you must kill before proceeding.
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft
* There are three brazier pillars to the South, West and North of the Marker. Cast CONFRIGO on each of them fast enough that they are all lit at once. The southern one is hidden behind a spider web that you must burn off before beginning.

Merlin Trial#6 - Forbidden Forest West

Merlin Trial found East from the West Forbidden Forest Floo Flame and near a Hippogriff den.
Eliminate the Dark Wizards in the area. Then activate the trial.
* Requires Lumos and Confringo
* Three Moonstone Pillars will light up around the marker. Find the luminescent bugs around the area and cast Lumos, then lure them to the pillars to complete the trial. You will need to burn some vines and destroy a rock wall to get to them.

Merlin Trial#7 - Forbidden Forest -North Ford Bog Entrance

Merlin Trial located within some ruins found just northwest from North Ford Bog Entrance.
This is a Platforming Puzzle. Simply destroy the rocks atop the pillars, then jump across all pillars WITHOUT falling to the ground.

 

Hogsmeade Valley Merlin Trials Guide

Merlin Trial#8 - Hogsmeade Valley East

Merlin Trial found due north from East Hogsmeade Valley Floo Flame in Hogsmeade Valley.
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft.
* Three brazier pillars will flash on your Revelio. You must get to high ground near one of the smaller pillars and use CONFRINGO on all three, starting from the largest, then the one next to you, then the one in the ground near the trial marker.

Merlin Trial#9 - Hogsmeade Valley - Falbarton Castle Road

Merlin Trial found in the grounds to Falbarton Castle, Hogsmeade Valley Region.
* Requires Wingdarium Leviosa, which is acquired from completing subquest Professor Garlick's Assignment 1.
* One Giant Ball will spawn up the hill from the trial. Use Wingdarium Leviosa to push it downhill the opposite way to the trial, toward the indenture at the bottom of the sliding slope. * Make sure you accompany the giant ball to the end to ensure it gets into the indenture or it will reset.

Merlin Trial#10 - Hogsmeade Valley - Falbarton Castle

Merlin Trial found right next to Falbarton Castle, Hogsmeade Valley Region.

Merlin Trial#11 - Hogsmeade Valley

Merlin Trial can be found at the Hogsmeade valley. Requires Bombarda that is learned from the quest Professor Howin’s Assignment.
* You will see five Stone Slabs surrounding the marker.
* Cast Bombarda to break all the slabs and complete the trial

Merlin Trial#12 - Hogsmeade Valley

Merlin Trial found at the Hogsmeade Valley Requires Lumos.
* Three Moonstone Pillars will light up around the marker. Find the luminescent bugs around the area and cast Lumos, then lure them to the pillars to complete the trial.

 

North Hogwarts Region Merlin Trials Guide

Merlin Trial#13 - North Horgwarts North Border

Merlin Trial found in the border between North Hogwarts and the Forbidden Forest.
* Requires: Flipendo, obtained by completing Professor Garlick's Assignment 2.
* There are three pillars toward the south and west of the marker. One of the pillars is on an islet in the lake, and another by the shore. Target the top block of each pillar to flip it. The flip will happen depending on which facet of the cube you hit.
* Use Flipendo on each pillar to match the bottom portion.

Merlin Trial#14 - North Horgwarts West Stream

Merlin Trial found by the road and a stream on the Western area of North Hogwarts Region
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft.
* Three Brazier Pillars are found around the area, one on a high cliff North of the marker, another inside a tower behind a vine that you must destroy West of the marker, and the final by the stream just south of the marker. * Cast Confringo on all three in quick succession, starting with the cliff one.

Merlin Trial#15 - North Horgwarts Lake

Merlin Trial found alongside the lakeshore of North Hogwarts.
* Requires Reparo * As you start the trial, four nearby statues will collapse. Simply cast REPARO on them to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#16 - North Horgwarts -Eastern Fields

Merlin Trial found on the very eastern portion of North Hogwarts, just south from The Collector's Cave.
* Requires Lumos
* There are hree Moonstone Pillars around the marker. Find the luminescent bugs around the area and cast Lumos, then lure them to the pillars to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#17 - North Hogwarts -Near the small Bridge

Merlin Trial can be found near the small bridge.
There are no spell requirements. Simply attack the five round heads among pillars nearby. All of them are visible from the trial marker

 

South Howgwarts Region Merlin Trials Guide

Merlin Trial#18 - South Hogwarts Northern Border

Merlin Trial found in the very northern border of South Hogwarts Region.
* There are no spell requirements. Simply attack the round heads among pillars nearby. Most of them are visible from the trial marker, except one that is across the water to the North-West of the trial.

Merlin Trial#19 - South Hogwarts - Northern Waterfalls

Merlin Trial found by the foot of the waterfalls into South Hogwarts.
* Using the Mallowsweet will remove the vines from the platforms nearby. Simply jump along each platform to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#20 - South Hogwarts - Hosmead Station

Merlin Trial found near the merchant of Hogsmead Station in South Hogwarts Region Highlands.
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft
* Three pillars will highlight nearby. You must target them with CONFRIGO from tallest to shortest and light them all up together.

Merlin Trial#21 - South Hogwarts - Northern Aranchshire Coast

Merlin Trial found in the lakeshore north-west from Aranshire in South Hogwarts Region.
* Requires: LUMOS
* Three Moonstone Pillars will get luminiscent bugs to the East (railroad), South (lake) and North (Lakeshore). Simply cast LUMOS near the bugs and bring them to the pillar then undo the spell. Complete all three to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#22 - South Hogwarts - Aranshire Railroad Cliffside

Merlin Trial found by the railroad South from Aranshire in South Hogwarts.
* Requires LUMOS
* Three Moonstone Pillars will light up to the south and down from the marker. Find the luminescent bugs around the area and cast Lumos, then lure them to the pillars to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#23 - South Hogwarts - East Aranshire

Merlin Trial found on the road leading up to the edges of the map East of Aranshire in South Hogwarts Region
* Requires Wingdarium Leviosa, which is acquired from completing subquest Professor Garlick's Assignment 1.
* One Giant Ball will spawn up the hill South-West from the trial, next to the well for the Well, Well, Well quest. Use Wingdarium Leviosa to carry it downhill to the indenture by the map marker.

Merlin Trial#24 - South Hogwarts - Aranshire

Merlin Trial found near the road above the railroad leading into Aranshire in South Hogwarts Region.
* Requires Accio
* Three platforms spawn North, East and South of the trial marker.
* Find the small bundles of balls by heading north by the road and then accio them to the platform nearby.
* The second bundle is found slightly east from the elevated platform, by some rocky formations
* The third bundle of rocks is down the cliff directly toward the railroad from the trial marker. Bring them to the southern platform to complete the trial

Merlin Trial#25 - South Hogwarts - Lakeshore

Merlin Trial found in the foggy lakeshore to the lake East from Hogwarts Castle in South Hogwarts Region.
* Requires Wingdarium Leviosa, which is acquired from completing subquest Professor Garlick's Assignment 1
* One large ball will spawn on the cliff right above the marker. Use Wingarium Leviosa to roll the ball downhill towards the shore. There's a big indentation in the water where you can place it. Vines will cover it and the trial will complete

Merlin Trial#26 - South Hogwarts - Cliffs

Merlin Trial Found just South from Hogwarts Castle in South Hogwarts Region.
* Requires Wingdarium Leviosa, which is acquired from completing subquest Professor Garlick's Assignment 1.
* One large ball will spawn nearby. Use Wingarium Leviosa to roll the ball downhill towards the shore. There's a big indentation where you can place it. Vines will cover it and the trial will complete

Merlin Trial#27 - South Hogwarts - Lower Hogsfield

Merlin Trial Found just East from Lower Hogsfield in South Hogwarts Region.
* Requires Accio
* Three platorms spawn in the near vicinity of the trial marker. Find the small bundles of balls laying on the grass and rocks nearby and Accio them to the platforms. Vines will cover them

Merlin Trial#28 - South Hogwarts - River

Merlin Trial Found in the south-east banks for the lake in the Southern Hogwarts Region.
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft
* Five Stone Slabs will rise surrounding the marker.
* Cast Confringo to break all the slabs and complete the trial

Merlin Trial#29 - Sout Howarts Region

Merlin Trial found at the Sout Howarts Region. There is a circular mark surrounded by small stone pillars, use Mallowsweet Leaves at the circular stone mark. You will see a Giant Ball at the cliff. Use Depulso on the big ball so that it falls off the cliff. Then use Wingdarium Leviosa to move the Giant Ball into place to complete the trial. 

Merlin Trial#30 - South Hogwarts - Waterfall

Merlin Trial found near the Waterfall.
Three Moonstone Pillars will light up near the marker. Find the luminescent bugs around the area and cast Lumos, then lure them to the pillars to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#31 - Hill - South Hogwarts

Merlin Trial Found at a hill near of Hogwarts.
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft.
* Five Stone Slabs will rise surrounding the marker.
* Cast Confringo to break all the slabs and complete the trial

Feldcroft Region Merlin Trials Guide

Merlin Trial#33 - Feldcroft North Border

Merlin Trial found at the border between northern Feldcroft and Western Hogwarts Valley, right by a Small Bandit Camp.
* Requires: Flipendo, obtained by completing Professor Garlick's Assignment 2.
* There are three pillars nearby (East, South and West). Target the top block of each pillar to flip it. The flip will happen depending on which facet of the cube you hit.
* Use FLIPENDO on each pillar to match the bottom portion.

Merlin Trial#34 - Feldcroft - North Feldcroft

Merlin Trial found within a Small Bandit Camp in North Feldcroft, Feldcroft region.
* You must defeat the Goblins in the camp to avoid them disrupting your trial * Simply find the staircase leading to the top of the platforms, and jump from one platform to the next without falling or touching the ground to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#35 - Feldcroft - Northern Road

Merlin Trial found along the road heading north from Feldcroft town.
* Requires Reparo
* Three statues will break near the trial (West, East and North). Use REPARO to fix all of them.

Merlin Trial#36 - Feldcroft - Near Irondale

Merlin Trial can be found near the small Irondale.
There are no spell requirements. Simply attack the nine round heads among pillars nearby. Most of them are visible from the trial marker with the exception of those near the mill.

Merlin Trial#37 - Feldcroft Region

Merlin Trial found at Feldcroft Region
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft.
* There are three brazier pillars to the South, West and North of the Marker. Cast Confringo on each of them complete the trial.

Merlin Trial can be found at the Feldcroft Region. Requires Bombarda that is learned from the quest Professor Howin’s Assignment.

* Requires LUMOS

Merlin Trial can be found at the Feldcroft Region. Requires Bombarda that is learned from the quest Professor Howin’s Assignment.
* You will see five Stone Slabs surrounding the marker.

Hogwarts Valley Merlin Trials Guide

Merlin Trial#49 - Hogwarts Valley - West Border

Merlin Trial Found in the Western corner of in Hogwarts Valley Region.
* Requires Accio
* Three platorms spawn West, East and South of the trial marker.
* Find the small bundles of balls by breaking a rock wall just north of the marker (midway up a hill). Accio them to the platforms. Vines will cover them.
* The second bundle is North-East from the marker, among the belongings of a dead healer in her camp. You'll also find "Healer's Note" here.
* The third bundle of rocks is on an elevated platform next to the southern platform. Bring them to the platform to complete the trial

Merlin Trial#50 - Hogwarts Valley - West Hills

Merlin Trial Found in the Western hills of Hogwarts Valley Region.
* Requires Accio and Incendio
* Defeat the globins in the area. Then activate the trial: Three platorms spawn West, East and South of the trial marker.
* Find the small bundles of balls West by a forge of the marker. Accio them to the platforms. Vines will cover them.
* The second bundle is South from the marker, you must open a gate to get to them.
* The final bundle of rocks is East outside the camp, hidden under a rock and covered by some vines. Cast INCENDIO on the vines then Accio to bring the small balls to the platform to complete the trial

Merlin Trial#51 - Hogwarts Valley - River

Merlin Trial Found in the central Riberbank of Hogwarts Valley Region.
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft.
* Three pillars spawn along the riverbank near the marker. Defeat the Cottongrass Dugbog enemies before starting
* You must cast Confringo on the pillars but make sure they are all active at the same time. To do this, begin with casting on the pillar by the bridge, then do the one in the small islet (medium sized one) before doing the one by the riverbank that is the smallest. You can try doing this with Incendio but it is very hard.

Merlin Trial#52 - Hogwarts Valley - West of Brocburrow

Merlin Trial found due West from Brocburrow in Hogwarts Valley.
* Requires Lumos
* Three Moonstone Pillars will light up South, East and North from the marker. Find the luminescent bugs around the area and cast Lumos, then lure them to the pillars to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#53 - Hogwarts Valley - Brocburrow

Merlin Trial found in Brocburrow, Hogwarts Valley
* Requires Wingdarium Leviosa, which is acquired from completing subquest Professor Garlick's Assignment 1
* One Giant Ball will spawn up the hill South from the trial, up a road with a somewhat steep slope. Use Wingdarium Leviosa to carry it downhill to the indenture on the way back to the the map marker.

Merlin Trial#54 - Hogwarts Valley - Near Dale Family Tomb

Merlin Trial found east of Brocburrow, on the way to Dale Family Tomb in Hogwarts Valley Region.
Pillars will highlight to the East of the trial marker. Simply climb on the furthermost pillar and walk among the top without ever touching the ground until you complete them all.

Merlin Trial#55 - Hogwarts Valley - Keenbridge North

Merlin Trial found in the valley by the railroad norh-east of Keenbridge in Hogwarts Valley.
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft.
* Five pillars around the marker must be identified and destroyed. Reveal items near you to see them shine, then cas CONFRINGO on each one of the five special pillars to destroy them and complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#56 - Hogwarts Valley - Keenbridge West Cliffs

Merlin Trial found on the cliffs West of Keenbridge in Hogwarts Valley Region.
Nine pillars with round "heads" are found around the area, including one hidden behind a breakable wall around some Ashwinder enemies, and some atop the building adjascent to the trial marker. Simply break all the heads with any spell to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#57 - Hogwarts Valley - Keenbridge West

Merlin Trial found north-west from Keensbridge in Hogwarts Valley.
* Requires Lumos
* Three Moonstone Pillars will light up to the north, east and south around the marker. Find the luminescent bugs around the area and cast Lumos, then lure them to the pillars to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#58 - Hogwarts Valley - Keenbridge

Merlin Trial found in Keenbridge, Hogwarts Valley Region. Look around area for concrete ball with runes inscribed on it. Cast "Wingardium Leviosa" and drag the ball north across the stone bridge. A few meters up the path, you'll notice a place for the concrete ball in the ground, place the ball in the indentation and you'll complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#59 - Hogwarts Valley - Western Cliffs

Merlin Trial found among the cliffs on the West area of Hogwarts Valley.
There are three stone slabs South of the Trial Marker. Simply Jump from one to the next without touching the ground to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#60 - Hogwarts Valley - Southwest

Merlin Trial find next to a poacher's camp in the South-West portion of Hogwarts Valley. You will have to defeat the Dark Wizard poachers here before proceeding
* Requires Reparo * Three statues nearby will break as you begin the trial. They are to the south and west of the marker, with one inside a bandit camp. Repair all statues to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#61 - Hogwarts Valley - The Mine's Eye

Merlin Trial found just South from The Mine's Eye Floo Fire in Hogwarts Valley.
* Requires Wingdarium Leviosa, which is acquired from completing subquest Professor Garlick's Assignment 1.
* One Giant Ball will spawn near the mining ramparts by the trial marker. Use Wingdarium Leviosa to push the boulder it downhill to the indenture at the bottom of the cliff down the road.

Merlin Trial#62 - Hogwarts Valley South East

Merlin Trial found in the South-East area of Hogwarts Valley, near the mines.
* Requires Confringo that is learned from the quest In the Shadow of the Undercroft.
* Three brazier pillars can be found: One to the West atop the opposite Hill, one to the North across the gap, and the last one is East right next to the marker, hidden behind some boxes that you must destroy. Use CONFRIGO on the furthest ones first and then the one near you to light them all up in quick succession and complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#63 - Hogwarts valley

Merlin Trial can be found at Hogwarts valley.
There are no spell requirements. Simply attack the nine round heads among pillars nearby. All of them are visible from the trial marker

Merlin Trial#64 - Hogwarts valley

Merlin Trial found at Hogwarts Valley This is a simple trial all you have to do is go up the nearby pillars without touching the ground in between jumps.

 

Southsea Bog Merlin Trials Guide

Merlin Trial#65 - South Sea Bog

Merlin Trial found in the central area of the South Sea Bog Region.
* Requires LUMOS
* Three Moonstone Pillars will light up to the east, north and west from the marker. Find the luminescent bugs around the area and cast Lumos, then lure them to the pillars to complete the trial.

Merlin Trial#66 - South Sea Bog Southern Tip

A Merlin Trial found south from a Medium Bandit Camp, on the very bottom southern tip of South Sea Bog region.
* Nine pillars with round "heads" will highlight around the area. There are three groups of three: one is next to the trial marker, the other two are down where the Armored Trolls are. Break them all to complete the trial
