The Caretaker's Lunar Lament is a Main Quest in Hogwarts Legacy. The Caretaker's Lunar Lament can be obtained from Gladwin Moon, who is the caretaker for Hogwarts. Main Quests are mandatory Quests that tell the main story of the game, and completing all of them will accomplish the completion of the game. Still, that doesn't mean that Subquests, Challenges, and Collections are not important, as these quests grant very useful items as rewards for completion and also contain a lot of Lore.

Talk to Gladwin Moon
You can select this quest in the Quests menu and track the quest to reach Gladwin Moon from wherever you are. Gladwin Moon can be found leaning against the wall near The Grand Staircase inside Hogwarts, waiting for you to interact with him. Once you interact with Gladwin, he will introduce himself as the caretaker of Hogwarts and apologize immediately for the unsteady encounter that you had with him the first time in Hogsmeade. He'll then mention that he needs some help from you with something. He'll then ask you to look at what happens to the light of the curious statue during day and night. Once the game automatically changes time, you'll see the statue shine a bit brighter than usual. Gladwin will then ask you to remove the moon from the statue.
Remove the Moon From the Statue
Once the game automatically changes time, you'll see the statue shine a bit brighter than usual. Gladwin Moon will then ask you to remove the moon from the statue. You'll then see the statue vanish once you take the moon. Gladwin will then conclude that this can only happen during the Night-time.
Follow Gladwin
Gladwin Moon will then ask you to hold on to the moon as you two walk. Just follow Gladwin while he talks about the statues appearing out of the blue around the castle, and thinks that someone is out to torment him. He'll also mention that during his time in Hogsmeade, he came face to face with a Boggart/shape-shifter that takes the form of whatever you fear the most. He encountered a Demiguise, a creature that he mentions that looks into the future. He mentions that the statues are Demiguises which are there to torment him. He believes he knows the scoundrels responsible for using his greatest fear against him. He hopes to find out who they are by making the statues disappear with your help. He'll mention that the reason he chose you to help him is because of your reputation of fearlessness during the troll attack. You'll then get to choose a dialogue from the following:
- I'd be happy to help.
- I don't want to get into trouble.
- What's in it for me?
Choose the first option to proceed with the quest. He'll then mention that you'll need to use your Disillusionment Charm during the night, and also a new spell to unlock locks which is Alohomora. Now, he'll also mention that you can find the first statue in the Prefects" Bathroom and the Hospital Wing. Afterward, the game will automatically bring up a fast tutorial on how to cast Alohomora on the locks.
Use Alohomora to open the Faculty Tower Door
Afterward, the game will automatically bring up a fast tutorial on how to cast Alohomora on the locks. Interact with the lock to initiate the unlocking puzzle. After unlocking the door, Gladwin will remind you to use your Disillusionment charm to sneak your way through the area.
Retrieve the Demiguise moon in the Prefects' Bathroom
From the entrance, head straight until you reach the stairs going up. On the 2nd floor, there will be a faculty member that you can sneak past. Head up more using the stairs until you reach the 4th floor. Take another set of circular stairs until you reach the very top. Once up the stairs, you'll see a door with a lock. Unlock this door using Alohomora to get inside the Prefects' Bathroom. Once inside, you'll encounter a Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff prefect on the right, so go left to avoid getting spotted. Take the moon from the statue like what you did before, and now head outside and go for the Hospital Wing.
Retrieve the Demiguise moon in the Hospital Wing
From the Prefects' Bathroom, head outside and head up another set of stairs. One up, go left and you'll see the Hospital Wing with a bunch of people in it. Professor Garlick and Noreen Blainey are one of the people inside. Immediately head right inside the hallway and hide for a bit until one of the professors leave. Once one of them leaves, head for the desk that has the Demiguise, and takes the moon.
Return the Demiguise Moons to Gladwin
Just head back the same way you went inside the Faculty, and speak with Gladwin. Gladwin will thank you for what you've done for him and will say that the mystery remains unsolved. He'll mention to still keep a lookout for more statues and to keep using the Disillusionment Charm when necessary. This will mark the end of this Main Quest.

Quest Description
I met with the Caretaker, Gladwin Moon, and he believes there’s a plot to torment him with Demiguise statues placed all over Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. The Caretaker wants me to collect the moons from these statues which will make them disappear. He’s a bit of an irrational fellow and seems overly fearful of these statues. He’s asking for my help. He says he’ll teach me additional techniques with Alohomora if I bring him more moons. It’s important that I remember that I can only collect them at night.
