The Tale of Rowland Oakes is a Side Quest in Hogwarts Legacy. Side Quests are not required to advance in the main story of the game, but still completing these Quests can be useful to obtain Rewards for completing them. These quests sometimes serve as tutorials for new activities and may contain some Lore or background of the Harry Potter Universe.

Talk to Adelaide Oakes
Speak with Adelaide at the Transfiguration Courtyard's northern section.
Find Rowland Oakes' campsite
When the task is tracked, the campsite will be indicated on your map in the North Hogwarts Region. Use your broom to fly the remaining distance after fast traveling to the Floo Flame at either Jackdaw's Tomb or the East North Hogwarts Region.
Defeat the Goblins Occupying Rowland's Camp
Upon arriving, get rid of the Loyalists guarding the camp.
Investigate the campsite to find a clue
At the northern part of the campsite, find the Rowland Oakes Map on top of a box. A river, some rocks, and a dungeon with a red X on it are all shown on the map.
Use Rowland's Map to follow his trail
The Korrow Ruins are indicated on Rowland Oakes' map to the southwest. Head north of the Korrow Ruins Floo Flame with your broom to the goblin outpost.
Enter the goblin outpost
In the northwest corner of the goblin outpost, behind a gate and between two flags, is the entrance to Korrow Ruins.
Explore the goblin outpost and find Rowland Oakes
The dungeon at the outpost is rather simple and devoid of puzzles. Head downward through the western entrance when you reach the space with the wide shaft of light. To get to Rowland Oakes' locked cell, follow the tunnel.
Find Rowland's wand
Retrace your steps back to the room with the wide light shaft, then turn right to ascend the stairs to the boiler door. Continue up the stairs and around to the west side of the chamber to access the boiler door. On the boiler, use Confringo. Go through the opposite side of the door and defeat the goblins before entering the north room. Grasp Rowland Oakes' wand from the table's top.
Give Rowland his wand
To finish the quest, go back to Rowland's cell in the cellar and return his wand to him.
